Q. HOW DO I KNOW WHEN MY TANK NEEDS A NEW LINING?
Any crack or blister in the rubber deserves a thorough inspection.
Q. WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE FOR INSTALLING RUBBER LINING ?
- Product is abrasive blasted to SSPC-SP5 white metal blast profile
- A three-part adhesive system is applied to the steel substrate
- Uncured sheet rubber is cut into patterns to fit the shape of the product
- Seam configuration is determined based on the products use
- Hand rollers or “stitchers” push the rubber into every square inch of the blasted surface
- The uncured lining is spark-tested and checked for pinholes.
- The product is vulcanized in an autoclave.
Q. WHAT TYPES OF MATERIALS DO YOU USE TO LINE TANKS AND OTHER METAL EQUIPMENT?
Timbren uses 4 different rubber types:
- Soft natural – usually in the range of 35 to 65 Shore A durometer
- Semi-hard natural – usually with a face stock ranging 80 to 90 durometer
- Chlorobutyl - has excellent impermeability to weather, heat and oxidation.
- Neoprene - synthetic rubber with good resistance to oil, acid and radiation.
Q. CAN I MAKE MY OWN RUBBER REPAIRS?
We recommend that you hire an experienced professional to do all your repairs.
Q. WHAT IS THE AVERAGE LIFE EXPECTANCY OF A RUBBER LINING?
Depending on its usage, a rubber lining will last between 7 and 30 years.
Q. WHAT IS THE TURNAROUND TIME TO RUBBER LINE A PIPE? WHAT DOES IT COST?
There are factors affecting turnaround time and price such as: Rubber compound used, and surface preparation required. Contact a Timbren project manager for a time estimate and price.
Q. DOES TIMBREN INDUSTRIES DO FIELD WORK?
All rubber lining is done in our ISO 9001 approved facility.
Q. WHAT RUBBER LINING THICKNESSES ARE AVAILABLE?
Rubber lining can be as thin as 1/8” (3 mm) and can be layered – depending on the application - up to 2” (50 mm).
